ESD-coatings

How can a surface be produced EMC-compatible? Is an EMC/ESD-dissipation possible?

Both questions can in principle be answered positively, whereas it is always necessary to consider the system as a whole, of course:

About EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility):

This is usually realised by means of „electrically conductive chromated“ contact surfaces. Thus a good and long-lasting screening against electric fields is guaranteed, as the chromizing prevents the conductive layer from tarnishing due to the climatic conditions (corrosion). The damping effect can even be improved by the use of contact springs/EMC-sealings.

With varnished or powder-coated surfaces, we distinguish between “non-varnished” rear sides (color mist/Umgriff acceptable) and „varnish-free” rear sides (color mist/Umgriff not acceptable).

In order to ensure a cost-saving method of keeping the contact surfaces free of varnish, we make use of our own tool shop/jig department and profit from more than 35 years of experience with covering templates

About ESD (Electrostatic Discharge):

Here the screening layer normally consists of a varnish layer containing high-resistance conductive pigments.

Profit from our experience!

The implementation of EMC- and/or ESD-measures is an option which is realised upon the customer’s request.

We would recommend that in case of doubt, both prototypes with and without EMC-/ESD-measures are produced in order to be able to assess the efficiency or necessity of these measures for the series-production in the course of the CE-acceptance test of the complete installation.

Additionally, we can provide you with our customer information brochure „KDI000010 CE-labels for foil keyboards“upon request.
